I was going to post this on the thread about team USA gear but I felt it was slightly off the topic. (link below to Team USA gear post.)

Why is it that we (runners) mock or get angry at people who wear team gear?
Why is it that when we see someone with USA/NOP/OTC/Pro-running Team gear on we mock them for being a "try hard" or label them a hobby jogger?
People wear football, basketball and soccer jerseys all the time during their respective seasons and World/Euro Cups and we never have a problem with that.
So why should we have a problem with people wearing NOP/OTC/USA gear?
It's free advertising for an under served and grossly under advertised sport.
I honestly think making track and field merchandise more mainstream and available to the public would help grow the sport and runners need to stop chastising others for wearing team gear around.
I'm guilty of owning basketball team gear and I don't even like basketball. It's just clothing that I thought looked good. And now the Cavaliers have $33 of my money for me to walk around with their name on top of my head for no other reason than it looks good.
So they day track and field gear also becomes part of sports "fashion" will be one of the greatest steps forward this sport has taken in a long time.
Tell USATF/IAAF put our athlete's names on the back of these f****** singlets. They deserve to have their name put out there on the biggest stage.
Maybe I want a USA team singlet/shirt that says "Felix", "Craddock", "Centro", "Hoffa", "D'Agostino" or "Jager" on it instead of James and Durant.
It puts their names out there and opens an avenue that the public can begin to familiarize themselves with the sport.
