Anyone here use google voice? If i get rid of it, how can I text from my computer?

    so i've long had google voice on my cell phone. I really don't use it for anything other than I like being able to text from my computer. If someone texts me, i can just type up a response and fire it back on the computer.

    I guess the transcribed voice mails are somewhat nice but they kind of just make me lazy. Instead of actually listening to the message and call the person back,I just glance at the text.

    Anyway, I think I want to ditch google voice. NOt being able to get MMS or group texts is beyond annoying. But if I get rid of it, how can I text from my computer?

    Might not be the exact functionality you're looking for, but Google's hangouts feature allows the same thing at face value. You and the user both have to have Google accounts (and who doesn't?) so you can connect to them through Google plus and start a hangout with them. Multiple people can be added in.

    You just create an account quickly through google+ (plus.google.com) and you can get all the functionality you mentioned needing.

    It can also be merged with SMS messaging on your phone so whatever messaging app you use for texting can contain the hangout conversations

    I will call JL tomorrow. Showing up at the dinner is not a good idea because all my puppies are going to be wiggly and I'm going to need to talk to her privately.

    +1 MightyText is the way to go. Pushbullet can do this too, but you can't see message history on computer screen (for now...feature is apparently coming soon)
