That was only during the Jason Dunn era. Teams not doing well has nothing to do with the School they run for, it has to do with bad coaching, injury and choke artist athletes. Elliot Heath was a Professional Choke Artist when it came to NCAAs in XC. Chris Derrick was on point every year but 2-3 guys behind him blew up each time.
Since coming into Stanford, Milt has had a lot of success with peaking his athletes/teams for NCAAs. Yes, the Rosas got hurt, but they are just injury prone as evidenced by HS and the beginning of college. And Korolev had the most consistent season of racing in his life under Milt. In XC in the past 5 years he had a team get all 5 scorers as AA (Stanford M last year), a Georgetown team with 4 AAs (2010), A national championship team and an individual runner-up and this doesn't include the track success (individual champ, AAs, DMR champs)
Just looking at the last 5 years, Milt as a coach in XC has done:
Georgetown Women 1st (2011) Stanford Men 2nd (2014), Stanford women 3rd (2012) Georgetown Women 4th (2010)
Infeld 2nd (2010) 4th (2011), Cuffe 4th (2013), Korolev 4th (2014), Jim Rosa 5th (2013), Cranny 12th (2014), Tonn 16th (2013), McGorty 20th (2014)
