All this proves is how stupid it is for America to have records based on year. They should be by year of birth, period.
Also - does your son hold the old record, Wendy?
I don't get where the complaining is coming from. With Obea Moore having run slightly faster at this age, Tyrese Cooper doesn't have the national class or age group record. He's awfully close, though. Nowadays, it is very common for boys to start kindergarten at 6 in order to better keep up in school (boys usually don't read and write as early as girls in our society) and to have an advantage in football and basketball in high school. 20% of Kindergartners start at 6, a year older than was typical.
The whole starting kindergarten at age six sucks for those of us who followed the normal process and have to watch our kids compete against runners 12 months or more older. I figure it will all eve out when my boys take 5 years to graduate from college and make good use of the red shirt rule.
We miss you Tyrese
you can still turn it around bro wrote:

Tyrese is busy these days trying to stay out of the system.
I'm gay
I don't really follow sprinting, but I'm assuming this guy is tearing it up as a pro by now. Can anyone fill me in on the success he's had since this thread was posted years ago?

Yeah, you got jokes...
The weird thing is he did manage to run an additional indoor season after his run in with the law. Its sad to see talent wasted. And for every kid with this kind of physical talent who can't keep their life together enough to use it, there is another kid somewhere with the equivalent academic talent that goes wasted. How many potential medical researchers, physicists, etc missed out on their chance because they followed a similar path to cooper? The sports stars generally get much more help, so probably a lot.
