I was going to guess 4:35 for the overall avg.
Interesting that avg finish time for both men and women has increased by about 40 min since 1980.
I will say I am glad to see the growth in running. I know some will lament the slower avg time, but really what difference does it make? The US is at its "modern" peak in terms of producing distance runners. I would just like more runners to take an interest in professional running so that more people could see it as a viable professional sport. Of course with 550K marathoners (leaving out the shorter distance folks) that should increase the pool of people interested in the pros.
It puts more money in the shoe companies--which remains the dominant sponsor of runners.
2:15:25 / 2:02:58 = 10.12% slower
4:44:19 / 4:19:26 = only 9.58% slower
