With regards to the comments about reading glasses, I would add that depending on your age, you can consider mono vision. I'm 51 and was borderline needing bifocals (or reading glasses with Lasik), so I chose the mono vision option when I did my Lasik surgery. It's great. I see long distance and can read very small print without reading glasses.
Regardless, I personally would prefer Lasik surgery and reading glasses over bifocals or contacts with both distance and near-sighted vision.
After having horrible vision for years, it's hard to describe how awesome it is to wake up and see and have no need for glasses or contacts.
