Perhaps this an impossible-to-answer question, but let's say you had the opportunity to starting coaching a suburban hs program that has had no depth (we're talking back of the back at AAU at best) for about twenty years. There's not much of a sports culture at the school and certainly not a running culture. But you like the school and the admin likes you. You have a vision for a well-knit distance program. You like big challenges.
How long would you say it might take to create something decent? Any stories or anecdotes of doing this kind of thing would be great.
