WADA just published a global list of Athlete Support Personnel who are currently suspended from working with Athletes. He's in that list:

This is not the first time a coach has worked in the NCAA system while being under a drug suspension as an athlete. The rules at the time may not have been worded the same as they are now for WADA and banned athletes serving as coaches.

I can count at least three coaches on this list who were coaching while under a drug ban. The three individuals were coaching at the time at Illinois State, Kansas State and Bethune Cookman/Mississippi State.

Who was the doping coach at Miss State? Tell me it wasn't Bryan Fetzer!!!

Interesting to see that the UVA rosters have been updated and there were no freshman throwers added for either gender. I wonder if the coach didn't recruit knowing that he would be unable to work with any athletes for the next two years.

Also interesting that there are 7 throwers on the roster and not a single one is an in-state student. Seems that those that know best are staying away.

Fetzer wants to talk "abnormal results" with the throws group?

Scholarship money for men is likely all tied up. Women I do not know what virginia has on their roster so can't say. The reason they do not have any in state kids is because they do not want them. They brought in a foreign coach so they can go after foreign athletes. Its simple.By saying high schoolers know about the ban rule is giving way to much credit when most college coaches appear to have not known the rule existed. IN short no Virginia kids because they do not want whats in Virginia right now.

Move on please. Suspended by a group that the ncaa doesn't recognize. UVA was probably told immediately and called NCAA. NCAA told them where they stood and that's that. Now that his success is recognized the jealousy comes out. Things happen and you move on. Don't pull the "I'll show you" just because you don't get answers you want.

Has anything come of this story and investigation. I have looked at the boards and sites and there seems to be total radio silence since this article broke.

Croatia is not known to have a good record when it comes to doping regulations. So, for them to ban Martin and substantiate the substance found in his body and publish it to the IAAF seems to be of importance. That the NCAA may not recognize the Croatian Drug agency's findings which is why Maric still can coach says more about the lack of value that the NCAA places on cleaning up the image of the sport and protecting the athletes. If this NCAA response to the Croatian findings is true, then the NCAA is not saying that Maric isn't a doper; they are saying they don't care because he was found guilty out of their jurisdiction? Is there a jurisdictional separation when it comes to this kind of stuff. The IAAF has NCAA athletes competing at many of their events. If a member country bans an athlete from competing at the IAAF level can that athlete still compete at the NCAA level? It's all a bit muddled to me.

Looks like he has been reassigned. He's currently listed by UVa as a Fitness & Instruction Programmer in the Department of Intramural-Recreational Sports.

Looks like they are gonna keep him around until suspension is up...then back to business as usual. So, UVA's ad, head coach, et al...are condoning a current drug cheat's association with its program and are keeping him on.

The ustfccca is cool with it, the NCAA is cool with it...

The hypocrisy.... Yet student athletes still have to listen to all the preaching about "drug free" sport, student athletes still have to show up for random drug tests at 6 am etc, and if they actually fail one, lose their eligibility, and/or scholarship.

Drug cheats IN! Says uva, ustfccca, and ncaa... great example to us all.

Wish I knew what the rationale behind this decision was, but they are keeping all of that behind closed doors. Perhaps he has some sort of evidence that is relevant to the AD, but not to the doping agency? Shame the AD won't speak to this. I can only assume they trust he did not intend to cheat but have zero proof.

Another thing is I'm pretty sure Maric basically had one foot out the door of competitive athletics and this coaching job was his next career. Unless I'm off with my timing and this sample was from prior to that, why risk getting caught in the twighlight of your career?
