The old record of 13:42 was run by Bruce Kidd in 1962!!!!! Talk about an old record. Glad that it finally went. I'm sure that Kidd is also glad that it did...
How fast was Rupp as a Junior?

Per the IAAF, he ran 13:37.91 in 2004.
Remember that German Fernandez still has the junior record... It's always tough to live up to prodigious achievements, though.
Bruce Kidd did some other good stuff after hanging up the spikes. See:
http://physical.utoronto.ca/FacultyAndResearch/Meet_the_Faculty/Kidd.aspxKnight also beat the Syracuse school record, which stood at 13:46...
(BTW: error on my part, Kidd's record was 13:43 and not 13:42)
Good run. Not going to get my hopes up yet, though. Benninger ran 13:33 in his college debut, indoors, with a 4:12 last mile, and never got much faster
You may obviously be right.
Guys that were rock stars as Juniors and never really got much faster;
Fernandez
Sanchez
Castelano
Kidd
Proudfoot, who ran 13:38 and was a 14:43 runner as a junior 4 or 5 years ago, may end up with a faster PR when both their careers are over.
However, some fast juniors did end up being good as seniors:
Derrick
Rupp
Ritz
Prefontaine
