Just saw that ESPN is doing a pretty cool piece on the Beer Mile on Sunday. Looks pretty cool and in-depth.
Here's the tweet from ESPN Endurance @ESPN_Endurance
Coming Sunday: @SportsCenter Feature - The Beer Mile

Cool! Anyone have an idea of what time it might be shown on Sunday?
Sweet. It will be interesting if this gets a bit of traction in the mainstream.
Sad that this is what it takes to get running on ESPN.
Congrats. You're kind of a moran for being interested in this.

Why so serious bro ??
I guess I don't understand the animosity. Just posted as an FYI.I would counter that if ESPN makes a special that features running and an Olympian--and airs it on Sports Center--someone outside of "morans" must care about it. It must have some interest by the general public.

Yes Nick Symmonds is kind of a doucher, but look what he's doing for the sport. Beer mile or not, its still a running event being featured on ESPN. Tip of the iceberg

Just isolating the irony.
Jim Moran?
I went to school with a dude named Moran.
PLEASE don't let flotrack get wind of this. They'll post about 12 times a day it for the next 2 weeks.

For a dude with a father as a doctor, this is a pretty barfy stupid reality show whoredom. Just what running/track need.

I'll 100% watch this. Not sure what the hate is about. They should get a few celebs/athletes to participate.
I'm just curious, is there a standard beer that all competitors must use? I'd imagine that a nitro or less carbonated beer would be much easier to consume quickly and hold down. Also, lower alcohol content would obviously give an advantage.

The kind of beer doesn't matter as they all pour most of it over their head .
To their credit, they haven't mentioned/hyped it all on their site...there was a lot of coverage from their World Championships in the promo, too. Maybe they don't want to cover the beer mile as much during the high school season?

5% alcohol minimum...Complete rules here:
No mention of carbonation/nitro.
Training techniques such as doing time trials or intervals with 10-15% alcohol content beers or even shots of hard liquor would probably be helpful to properly "condition" the athletes. This event might be more entertaining if it were run as a steeplechase.
