this is what most people think. running a marathon is highly prestigious and associated with manliness, sportiness, ardor. running a mile is associated with lacking training diligence ("what? just a mile?"). most people can´t believe that a strong miler puts in 70, 80 miles.
even worse: triathlon, ironman. just wear ironman finisher shirts, you will become the focal point at all social occasions.
