I usually balk if they are over $80. I was amazed when buying new cleats for softball how much cheaper they were than running shoes. Bought some Nike cleats last weekend for about $40. Are cleats that much cheaper to produce?

I wear one model of training shoe. I pay as much as I must, but with smart shopping I never have to pay anything close to the $120 they list for.
The most I've ever paid has been in the $80's, and I found some for under $60 in March. I know how many pairs I go through in a year, so I buy in quantity. Every year, the manufacturer comes out with "new" models that are virtually identical to the previous year's model, and the previous year's shoe goes on clearance. A rep admitted to me that they know they can never substantially change this shoe due to its popularity.
$80 is my limit. I shop for year-old models on line, or wait til the local running store has a clearance sale. I've never had a problem with older models "going stale" while sitting on the shelf.

Why did you think the word "literally" was necessary?
Why did you feel it necessary to respond?

What about track spikes?... Spikes are lasting me only a few races nowadays, so in general I'm through with Nikes.
Just curious. Why are spikes only lasting you a few races?
$85, but only if I really need them. I usually find something decent at the local Nike Outlet for $45. Also, I wear the shoes until the bottom wears away to reveal the cushioning. I usually have at least 4 pairs at a time and keep them for about 2 years. So, about 6 months of use on each pair.

yeah, that's odd.
The MSRP on my shoes (Mizuno Wave Inspire) is $120. I paid $38 and $53 for my last two pairs (Model 10, Model 11 is most current). But I think in the past I usually spent around $60-$70.
