Solinsky for sure as far as pr's are concerned as the poster above mentioned. He would have made a team if he went a little longer without getting hurt. He pretty much had one peak year and it was all over.

Mark Nenow comes to mind right away. So does Greg Fredericks if you don't count the 1980 team that didn't go to Moscow. Both of them had the US 10,000 meter record. Eamon O'Reilly had the US marathon record from 1970-72 but didn't make an Olympic team.

After Solinksky it's Ben True. But he still has 1 more shot at the very least.
Solinsky was the first person I thought of. I thought nenow made the '88 team?

HAS to be Skeets Nehemiah. Set 6 World Records between '79 and '82. Not many who can compete with that, Olympians or not
