Hey guys, i will be racing this other guy from the other side of the town very often in the 3200 this outdoor season. We're both juniors with a mile PR of 4:50, but he has a 3200 PR of 10:20 and i have a PR of 10:27.
He always takes a race out hard, settles into pace and then goes hard again after the first mile but his kick over the last lap is substantially weaker. I take races out slowly but i run even or negative splits with a very solid last lap. I really have to beat this guy, but if ever try to take a race out hard, i die every time and end up getting disappointed.
What type of strategy should i use so that i can beat him without going out too hard and making sure he doesn't put too much ground between us?
