julius peppers, after being suspended for the final games of the NFL season for using a banned substance, was just voted defensive player of the year. This is why TandF is a dirty sport, cuz we actually try and stop drug use.

peppers is the illest defensive player in the league. they tried to stop him...but you cant stop peppers, you can only hope to contain him. he now joins another former tar heel in winning rookie of the year, Lawrence Taylor. 56.
The Heels must be proud! LT, Another drug addic......er.....fine citizen who represents the University proudly.
Joe Montana, Steve Young are 2 of the most overrated players in NFL history. How many 'great' QB's in a row does SanFran have to have, before people realize the greatness is in the system and not the lucky thrower?
Look at Joe Montana's link below for career statistics. While he was still pretty good with KC, he was not as effective and never came close to winning a championship. He would've never been a Hall of Famer if he had spent his career there.
http://www.profootballhof.com/players/statistics/jmontana.cfm
Steve Young's pass rating went from around 61.0 with Tampa Bay to 120.8 with the 49'ers the very next season. He miraculously became 'great'. The below link will show it:
http://espn.go.com/nfl/s/2000/0608/574283.html
Elvis Grbac was NFL player of the week and on the cover of Sports Illustrated when with SanFran. He had 2 of 3 seasons with a passing ratio in the upper 90's, then never came close again after leaving.
http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/1035
Steve Bono's stats during his 5 years with the 49'ers were above and beyond the other 10 years he competed in the league. His career passing rating was 75.3, but with the 49'ers, he averaged about 10-11 points higher. Check the link below:
http://cbs.sportsline.com/u/football/nfl/players/1027.htm
Now we have Jeff Garcia, a career 49'er with limited ability, who has made the Pro Bowl and is putting up big time numbers. Surprise surprise!!
Any recent San Francisco QB's that I am forgetting? I've gotten most of them.
Hard to argue against.
If T&F (and XC) really wanted to get rid of people who use banned substances than the NCAA would have investigated the Westly Keating situation. But "The NCAA doesn't give a shit." So everyone start using EPO because I guarantee you won't get caught. T&F is one of the dirtiest sports their is and, the sad thing is, for every person we catch and bust, 4 or 5 get away with it.
Alls I know is Michael Vick is ridiculous, i don't care if this is a running board, it is scary how good he is.
I remember reading about an Atlanta Falcon player who had been on the St. Louis Rams team the year prior. He stated that Vick was definitely the fastest player he had ever played with or against.
I want to see a race between Michael Vick, Michael Bennett, and Randy Moss... say, 60 meters without pads. Hell, maybe it should be a full 100m.
Better throw Joey Galloway in there just to be sure. Doesn't he own the fastest 40 time ever?
Rumor had it that Galloway once ran a 3.9 40 at Ohio State. I doubt he can go that fast since he tore up his knee, but that probably makes him "only" a 4.4 guy. I think if Vick and Moss squared off in a 60, Vick would take him.
The scary thing about Vick is not his raw speed, but his acceleration. He just has that burst of speed when guys are closing in on him or when he gets in trouble, then he seems to have an even higher gear once he gets past everyone. I just wish he would learn to slide every once in a while instead of taking some of those linebackers and big-hitting safeties like he does. One of those shots might end up costing him someday. But what a talent. . .how good will he be when he truly knows what he's doing and he has a little more around him?
Perhaps Bill Walsh is just the best judge of QB talent in the history of the NFL.
Montana wasn't a hard pick but..
Steve Young was a Tampa Bay back up...back in the days when Tampa were about as bad a team as ever existed. Walsh saw something in him. Garcia played is college ball at lowly San Jose State and then went on to play in the CFL before coming to San Francisco. Walsh saw someting in him too.
Elvis Grbac...Walsh is good but he's not infallible.
You say Montana wasn't the same guy when he went to Kansas..HELLO...he was about 37 years old and had 2 bum knees...why do you think the Niners let him go? Of course he wasn't the same player.
Plus, just about everyone these days is playing a modified version of the west coast offense; if its just about the system why diesn't ever team produce a succession of hall of fame QBs.
Yeah the 49er QBs are all overrated...how many rings do Montana and Young have again????
You sound like a pissed off Giants fan to me.
HA HA HA HA HA.
And another thing.
How many former 49er coaches are now coaching around the league? If it was the magical system don't you think they'd take the playbook with them?
Anyone who argues that Joe Montana is overrated is dumb. An overrated player does not lead his team to 4 Super Bowl Championships. An overrated QB does not orchestrate a game winning 80 yard TD drive with barely 2 minutes left in Super Bowl XIV and remain so cool that he points out celebrities in the crowd to his teammates in the huddle to ease their tension. If anything he's underrated. There have been countless QB's in the West Coast system or variations of it around the NFL the past couple of decades and no one has had the success of Joe Money. You disprove your argument bringing up the likes of Elvis Grbac and Steve Bono because they were working within the same system as Montana and were not nearly as successful. In fact, you shouldn't have even mentioned them in the same post as Joe Money. Just for doing that you lose all credibility in my eyes.
Another thing, the NFL has a respectable drug policy. Julius Peppers was suspended 4 games because he tested positive for ephedra which was an ingredient in a dietary supplement he was taking. 4 games for such a small infraction shows that the NFL has a zero tolerance policy concerning banned substances.
Superbowl 1989 Miami Florida. 49ers trailing for most of the game against the Bengals.
3 minutes to go and they are down by 3 points. They get the ball back on their own 8 yard line and turn to face the Benglas defense that had stifled them all afternoon. The team were rightfully very concerned. 92 yards to go in 3 minutes...not very likely. The huddle was quiet when Montana jogged over from the sideline. First think he says...."hey Harris (to Harris Barton) look, isn't that John Candy standing over there?"
Joe Cool was ready for another miracle 4th quarter comeback. Two and a half minutes later Montana drills a pass to John Taylor in the end zone and its game.
Yup it was the system allright.
Moss ran a 6.31 55m and 21.15 200m while at Marshall. He only ran one year of indoor track while enrolled. That doesn't help determine if he would beat Vick in a 60m, but I'm pretty sure Michael Bennett (10.18) would beat them both.
Joe ran the West Coast like it was designed specifically for him. Say what you want about him, but he won games and made plays when they counted. And his best comeback wasn't even in the NFL either. His last game at Notre Dame was the Cotton Bowl against Houston, and he was really sick with the flu. After spending most of the third quarter in the locker room and throwing two picks when he came back out, he leads the Irish to three TD's in the fourth quarter to win the game.
Here's a great story I found about it:
http://cbs.sportsline.com/u/page/historian/montana.htm
Gotta give him respect.
I'm a p---ed off Giants fan who recognizes that Joe Montana was a GREAT quarterback, one of the best ever. He was less great with the Chiefs b/c he was never the same after Leonard Marshall flattened him in the playoffs in 1991.
Great info but frankly who asked you?
...Nobody.
