I 100% agree in most instances. I made an exception for myself though recently for two track 3000s I ran. I was at the meet solo so had no one to give me splits and the finishing clock wasn't in a place it was visible.
The first race I looked at it for the first mile, but after that I was actually racing people and never looked at it again until I hit it a couple seconds AFTER I finished.
The second time I was in no man's land with no one to race so used the watch for splits. I instinctively clicked it as I crossed the finish line even though I knew I didn't need to and shouldn't waist the focus.
Anyway, there can be a time and place for it if you're just time trialing.
