I have been having a lot of injuries for years due to my form. Mainly hip and medial knee injuries.
To give a little background. I broke my tib and fib as a 15 year old during a growth spurt which means my left leg is a little shorter than my right. I also never rehabbed the injury properly and I have pretty severe over-pronation on the short leg because of that but my leg alignment is pretty good on that side otherwise, my knee and hip track straight and my foot is not retroverted on that side.
The problem is with the side of the longer leg. I have tibial retroversion, femoral anteversion and a functional flat foot which I presume is for compensation due to the leg length discrepancy. I have an eggbeater running style on this side. Basically, Just after pushoff, my foot externally rotates and my femur internally rotates heavily through the swing phase but has corrected by the time I have reached full hip flexion.
Everyone I have seen wants me to focus on strengthing my glutes and stretching my TfL. I don't think that is the problem as I have been heavily strengthening and stretching for nearly 2 years now and have seen no improvement.
My question is, Could this problem be emanating from the functional flat feet and tibial retroversion? I ask because if I lift my arch consciously while standing, my alignment improves dramatically. What could be the possible causes and corrections of this gait pattern?
