I'm surprised that Hollywood has 'converted' combat support jobs into heroic roles. The Army, Navy, Air Force, National Guard, and Coast Guard gives new soldiers a choice in Basic Training. They can choose to be grunts rather than non-risky jobs such as cooks, IT Admins, air crew, bomb disposal, truck driver, flying drone pilot, construction, you name it.
