His training philosophies-
Great. They obviously shadow over Renato Canova, but he does put his own spin on it. They are working also. The guys are developing at Houston. His knowledge is focused on more of the small scale things such as mental games, muscle tension, little things in general that provide an edge (not grey area stuff), etc. I like how he believes anyone can make it in this sport by hard work. So many people say how genetics are a make it or break it kind of deal, but he doesn't believe it. For example, he was telling me about how Josh McDougal worked his tail off to get where he got in college. Straight up out worked others. End of story. (He told me about coaching him when we first met).
I'm conflicted about him leaving. Here's why: the distance program is completely under-funded. Maybe they brought him in to make a team without a fully funded program? I can see him making a great program with hardly any scholarship to give, but he might get impatient and have quicker success at a school who will throw a few full rides to those who deserve it.
Some things I observed/learned the few times I met with him/communicated with him:
1. Hard guy to get a response from. It could be because he is very busy. However, whenever I've been around him he's always on his phone, but it can take weeks to get a response from the guy (text, call, email, etc).
2. Loves to talk running. I have always been surrounded by people who don't care about running, so it was nice to talk with him. Also fun to ask him personally who is doping and who is not. I just threw names out and he knew almost everyone... Good news: Meb is clean. Thanks, Magness. I gained a bit of faith from hearing that.
I can't comment on the AlSal ordeal. I talked to him about that in person also. He will talk in full detail in public when he wants to talk in full detail (if he ever does). He's very vague in interviews and such for a reason. No need to speculate. Most of the stuff people are spewing have no idea what they're talking about.
Why does this persist on letsrun? The last part has been discussed so many times with the same nonsense answers/speculations.
