As for your point about role models, KIDS are exactly the people I am talking about. You say nobody over 7 has NFL players as role models. First, that is an incorrect and ignorant statement. Second, even if that were the case how is that better? Do we not want popular figures such as Lynch to set a good example for 7 year olds? He has to be there for a certain amount of time anyway, why can't he carry himself in a way that children can look up to? I am sorry if some people are too ignorant to understand that and will just say "who cares its just the media."
I agree that the NFL has taken an image hit, but don't think it has anything to do with Lynch not talking. I have kids and I have no trouble explaining to them why Lynch doesn't talk - although the crotch grabbing is definitely something I can do without.
However, I don't want to have to explain to my kids why someone can't play because he is accused of rape, or why a star player beat his child, or another one punched his fiancee.
The NFL can deal with Lynch not talking. It's not as if it will trigger a bunch of other players wanting to mimic him. What they need to deal with is the violent and criminal activity so many players are involved in off the field. One player refusing to do interviews is just a distraction from the real problems facing the league.
