Where I am, the union workers are grossly overpaid and underworked sloths.
I get it, protect the employee from being abused by the corporate elite, but jeez, it has gone so far the other way now by paying exorbitant salaries, and ridiculously generous pensions for people that don't have the skills or work ethic to be employed at McDonald's.
I do work where we regularly need contractors. Sometimes we're required to use union contractors. They're generally far more expensive and the quality of work is lower. 9 out of 10 times I'd take the non-union contractor if costs were equal. Considering the non-union contractors are cheaper, it's no contest.
Unions had/have their place where working conditions are overtly dangerous/deadly but for the most part those days have past in this country. Unions today impede progress and perpetuate incompetence (teacher's unions and other public sector workers) while creating massive debts for the rest of society (unfunded public pension funds).
I do not understand how modern labour unions can be faithful to the democratic party given their stance on low-skilled illegal immigrants. Thanks to the current administration's decisions on the issue: 1. low-skill illegal labour is now legal and 2. - and this is a big one - anyone considering crossing the border knows that we'll be soft on them and the possibility of ill-gotten citizenship continues to be a real.
And on top of that - you the democrats actually have no idea how this population will vote in the future especially given their religious beliefs.
You liberals who coalesce around the Democratic Party are idiots. You vote blindly just like the christian-right that you so admonish. You continue to create tomorrow's problems - please stop.
