Amazing that the 'non-talented' Sage just won $10k in a foot-race. Why weren't you in the race to collect the dough, if it doesn't require talent?

Anything longer than a marathon is a "picnic hike" where they pull out food along the way and course accuracy is only recommended. Make sure you bring you compass on our orienteering adventure. It is anything but a "foot race".

Brian Sell didn´t think so.

Why are you wasting time on LR when you could be out there dominating the ultra scene?
Because dominating "the ulra scene" is like being the smartest kid on the short bus. At the end of the day your still a retard.
....
Run a marathon on a track..
..
Was Sage really the youngest runner in the Olympic Trials in 2007? I read it in everything that he puts his name on but I can NOT find his name in the results? Did he drop out or is it a mistake? I can't believe that 7 years after a race that you DNF'd that it would still be something that is on your resume? I am sure that it must be a mistake.

It's "you're," not "your." Sad.

Perhaps you´re a retard if you dominate the "ulra" scene.

I was thinking the same thing. The jealousy on this board is astounding. Sage is the most talented man on this planet. He could make the Olympic Team in at least 4 events. He has chosen to run Ultra's for the challenge as he has already mastered the marathon and 10k.
At least he knows how to use a comma, Socrates.
u jealous bro?

If sub 2:05 guys start showing up for ultras, we might see the first sub-6 in 100km.
Hey, Sage stated he was planning to run Comrades next year. How cool would it be if he takes down Alberto's time?
Max King is also planning on Comrades in 2015. I think Max will have the upper hand over Sage at the 'Rades if any American is going to get Alberto's time
Alberto's time at Comrades was actually pretty crappy compared to most winning times for the up run. I would suspect if they want to be in the hunt they will be planning on being faster than Alberto was.
The average winning time for all up run wins post Salazar's 5:38:39 win is 5:29:54, so pretty much 9min faster than Alberto. The slowest up winning time in that time frame is still 3min faster than Alberto's win.
Now a win is a win and Alberto did what he needed on the day (I doubt he could have gone faster because he was actually holding on for dear life at the end) but his time is sub par for winning The Comrades Up run.

Sage was a DNF in the race as he had an XC race (I think NCAA Regionals) the next weekend. His coach let him start for the experience, etc. , but he dropped out in the early part of the race. It is a good bragging point for some folks to say I was the youngest qualifier, especially when they had no chance of making the team that year.

Bro/Sage, pick a standpoint to talk from: Third person or first person. "Sage was a DNF", "His coach let him start"..... "for some folks to say I was the"

Anyway Sage has the last laugh because he does have "talent"
"talent" only in his own mind. Fact is he is too slow to run anything other than ultras where there is little competition. When talent does show he loses.
To say Sage has no talent is simply wrong (perhaps jealousy?). Is he one of the top marathon runners, etc., no, he's not. But he is a talented runner.
Looking at money only, the very fastest road runners will never (currently) switch to MUT because there is just not enough money in it - either for prizes or endorsement.
In any event, being good at one type of race does not guarantee success at another. Someone who is a top marathoner, does not guarantee if they switched they would be a top 100 mile mountain runner. There are people who can run an excellent half marathon, but could not make the switch to the full. Maybe Sage's best racing is mountain ultra distances, but saying he has no "talent" because he can't win a marathon is no different than than saying Kimetto has no talent because he can't beat the top 100m sprinters.
ps. I'm not a fan of MUT, or Sage, but, I hate ridiculous elitism

Maybe sub 18. If you want to hang out with sub 15s you're on the wrong board.
HAHA SAGE, for the record I am not Sage. Just a fan. I do see your point about the standpoint I was speaking from. Sometimes I get too conversational. Impressive how many English teachers we have on this board who are so willing to offer corrective advice.

"THAT YEAR"?
Which year do you think Sage has a chance to make the team? That made me spit up my breakfast cereal in laughter.
Why did Sage choose to finish in 2012? He was roughly 7 minutes away from making the team. By your logic he should drop out if he wasn't going to make the team. He wasn't at the 25 mile make when the team had been decided and that was his lifetime PB that day.
Fact.
Sage brags about being the youngest qualifier in 2008 because he figures no one will ever point out that he is bragging about a DNF.
Congrats on your DNF Barrister.
Really confusing, re-read my explanations. I didn't DNF, because I didn't run the race. Nor am I Sage. I said in 2007 he had no chance. I never addressed 2012 (which realistically, he had no chance either). My logic was that he dropped out in 2007 because he had an XC race the next weekend for Cornell (where he was enrolled at the time). In 2012, he was representing Hanson's, so he ran as best he could at the time (2:18) and came nowhere close to making the USOT. His lifetime PB is 2:16:58 (may be off by a few seconds) from the 2011 RNR Marathon in San Diego.
