Wondering what everyone's thoughts where as to what age an athlete should specialize to one particular event group. I'm coaching a group of junior high athletes and I'm wondering if/when I might have to begin making different workouts for sprinter/jumpers/middle distance etc.
Should athletes at this age specialize in one thing (say 800-1500m/jumps) or should they be encouraged to try every event on the spectrum and if so, how does a coach set up a program for this spectrum of events?
