I'd probably be bothered by it 10 years later as well. But regardless, to me, the most surprising thing in that article was that it took so long for them to get tested for mono. Seriously, HIV and cancer tests before a mono test? Along with anemia, mono is probably the most obvious diagnosis.
Anybody who has ever had mono knows the symptoms are obvious. I had it three times, the first time, I lost weight (17 lbs), very sore throat, and you feel like garbage. The symptoms are unmistakeable. The other two times I had the same, but the sore throat was not as bad.
In other words, I am surprised that the nurse missed this. Especially since they were roommates. One of them gave it to the other one. I have seen this in college a few times. One kid had mono over the summer, and is recovered but gives it to his suitemates. (not through kissing, but just through germs in the bathrooms or something).
Another thing, Cormier was really stupid to push himself like that. Had he let himself recover, which he should have been counseled to not exercise at all for at least 6 weeks, he would have been fine.
It's his business whether he wanted to keep on running, and NOT MINE, but he made a big mistake trying to "run through" mono.
