I (female) have been able to do this for a very long time now... During winter break of my junior year of college (2020-2021) my sciatic nerve was severely pinched for the entire break. About 3 weeks of constant pain. Nothing would help. It hurt standing up, sitting, laying down. I tried over the counter pain meds, ice, heat, nothing. I even tried a massage gun. After a while I got used to it and then one day after break the pain stopped. It was so strange. But then it would start to flare up more. I'm in the military and I did ROTC and we did a lot of rucking or carrying our rucks during labs and PT session and it caused a lot of stress on my lower back. It got bad again to the point where if I bent over sometimes it would pinch my nerve and cause my knees to buckle and I'd actually fall down. My primary care doctor (male) sent me to a specialist (also male), who did a test by pulling on my leg and pushing it up and asking if it hurt... that particular movement didn't hurt. He just told me I just have to "manage" the pain with over the counter meds, and that it's just pain I will have to live with. During my next physical assessment with the military I told the military doctor about the pain and they strongly urged me to get a second opinion and an MRI. I went to a new female doctor and asked her for an MRI and she immediately agreed. Turns out I had a herniated disc... I did physical therapy for the herniated disc twice a week for 6 weeks before I had to go to a 5 week training in summer 2021. My back didn't have any issues or pain during the whole 5 weeks. Now it hurts if I sit or stand for too long, but not severely. Driving for long periods of time flares it up as well. I sit for work all day everyday, and nearly every time I stand up, I can flex or squeeze my glutes (looks like I'm clenching my butt cheeks lol) and my lower back will pop. Sometimes it's quiet and sometimes it's loud enough that other people can hear it. I've also discovered if I push up on the armrests of my desk chair and let my torso hang limp, my lower back will pop almost every 15-20 minutes. I can also get my lower back to pop if I scoot down in a chair to where my tail bone is on the edge and I am slouching back in the chair. Sometimes it feels like a nerve is slightly pinched in my back and I feel like it NEEDS to pop in order to get relief. Popping during those times hurts slightly at first but then I'm relieved. I still don't know why my back does this. I probably need to get it checked on lol.
