Hi all, I'm currently 22 and have been training for marathons since 19.
I didnt run in college but i was pretty decent in HS 16:09/4:36/9:47 were my PR's.
In the past few years i've managed to go from 2:47:28 in my first marathon down to 2:29:37 in my most recent..
was Just wondering what it's gonna take for me to get to that next level (Sub 2:25)
I've been running around 95MPW when training is at it's peak.
Any advice from anyone? What were you doing when you ran sub 2:25?

More lifetime miles...keep putting in those 100 mile weeks! There's a big difference between running 2:29 and 2:24:xx. Race some half marathons first and work on LT interval efforts (i.e. like 2-mile repeats)...once you're in sub 1:10 shape then extend your Long Runs to 22 miles and do them as hard negative splits.

Lifetime miles will help. Try to not jst build your peak mileage - try to be consistent.
For sub 2:25 you will likely need at least 1:09:xx in the HM. For that you'll likely need at least sub 32/10k and at least 15:30 for the 5k. Try to hit all those paces and get more efficient. 2:20 - 2.25 is really the range of marathon time where a little bit of speed is MUCH more important than in the 2:30 range. There are MUCH more 2:30 runners than 2:25 and faster...

Sry, English isn't my mother tongue. I don't know if this should be an insult to my really sound advice.
I wanted to say that the difference between 2:30 and sub 2:25 is MUCH MUCH bigger than e.g. 2:35 >> 2:30 because IMHO 2:24 is a time most people are getting the first time problems with their speed. 2:30 is 3:33'/K. That's not that fast. 2:24 is 3:24/25 per K - and that is the range where it gets MUCH more important to train intelligently because speed suddenly becomes a huge factor.
A second per 100 meters in this range really is a difference. 20, 21 or 22 seconds per 100 meters is a world of a difference. Whereas a second per 100 meters when you run 7 or 8 minute miles isn't that crazy.
I hope my point became clear: IF you want to break 2:25 - try to get your 5, 10 and HM times down because his HS times do NOT indicate that much speed for me.
