I just directed a race for the first time this past Sat, a 5K trail race for a local charity in Ann Arbor. It is a philanthropical event for the house/scholarship organization that I am a member of. It is fairly low scale still, this being the 7th year, we had 110 runners. My goal with the race this year was to make it into a true competitive race, but we fell somewhat short, mostly due to lack of help from my fellow members who were not on the race committee.
Anyway, we raised about $500 in sponsors, plus another $1000 through bottle drives (we are college students:))
Food was donated, shirts cost about $1400, got a good deal on race equipment, clock, timer, megaphone, wheel, for like $50. Registration was $15/$17/$20. Oh, and we didn't have to pay to use the facility because it is held in a campus park area and they didn't charge us out of kindness. So, we were relatively low budget, and will hopefully come out to around $1500-$2000 total profit, all of which is donated.
Keep in mind though that the shallow resources we had this year prevented the race from being very professionally run, something i hope to greatly improve next year through bigger and more sponsors, to be obtained earlier (all of our's were local places)
Anyway, hope that helps
