They served me well. For some reason thicker-soled shoes never worked for me- I find my Asics gel lyte33 2s too squishy and I can't get a good feel for the ground and they sometimes make my knees hurt.
I tried out Saucony virratas for about a month and despite them being technically minimalist and 0mm-drop, I didn't like the thickness of the cushioning (I also didn't like how the inside of the virratas cut in to my arches), so I ended up returning them. So amount and firmness of cushioning are a more important determining factor for me than drop is.
I like the feel of my Saucony Kilkenny shoes, which I race XC in but sometimes take the spikes out to just do a normal run in them.
Any recommendations? I might want to try out something thicker because everyone seems to wear thicker shoes and there might be something I'm missing... The Minimuses (Minimi??!?!?) were a little on the extreme (thin) end of cushioning. I have a predominantly midfoot strike (slightly towards a forefoot strike), if that helps.
