7 miles a week for 7 weeks, I doubt weight is the main thing holding you back!
Try running 2 or 3 miles 3 days out of the week with the rest at 1 mile. See where it gets you. 1 mile is not much running at all.
Are you running the mile near 6:27 every day?
If you are, then run in 7:30 the next six days and on the 7th day you will be faster than 6:27.
You will improve even more if you run 2 miles most days and only try for a fast mile one day a week.
Research has shown that a sub 6 mile is achievable solely by running on pure hate.
