The full context of the question referred to the old, dragged out debate of whether BYU (Mormon) runners have an advantage by taking off 2 years for an LDS/Mormon mission, and how it is continually brought up on Letsrun when a BYU runner has success. So my answer in in regards to that was eventually runners come to their level after time. It was not a diss on posters showing their level, etc. I just received the email that the article was up, and was told that already some Letsrun posts were being thrown up. Of course I had to see for myself. So thanks everyone for ruining my wonderful streak of not visiting the message boards for like 4 months. Now I'll have to start re-hab again. ;) I do frequent the main page though.
Welcome back! See what you missed?
It is impressive that when a thread is started about somebody who no longer reads the message board, they are notified by a friend in an average of about 4 minutes!
Josh and others should be glad that there is an actual message board where they/track are discussed ... otherwise, no one else gives a rip. The fans of the sport are here, like it or not.

He indirectly admitted to being a troll on LRC. He was an un-Troll for 4 whole months. The pressure of remaining pure was more than he could bear. Hes BACK to troll again!!!!
It's not that simple. It's called accountability. It's a word many cannot spell properly, and it's a word that even more cannot accept. If you do not wish to be taken to task on behavioral patterns, then maybe it is a signal that, part and parcel, the board has to change. That there even is trolling on a running forum is staggering. There are people who run, walk, and are avid fans of the sport who come here to read news, information, and, of course, the forums. However, lately, the forums are more about trash-talking than about running or the pride runners should have in our sport.Folks, right now, we are worse than people that, as a collective, the groups put down (see: Cross-fitters), as we belittle the beacons of excellence of our own running community. It's about time that someone at a high level took this board to task, and I hope that more do before there is a necessary change in attitude. If many of the athletes were to take this board seriously (based on what you are telling them):Rupp would have to give up because "he's done" (even as he posted a recent 13:08. (fyi: he's still fit and ready)Mary Cain would be out of the sport because so many people are telling her she is finished. (side note: give her time, folks)Meb would have to justify where he is from--daily (Btw, he's American!)NOP would all be on drugs and have no talent without it. (Runners still have to be able to run well)Hasay would be washed up (can you say: Obsession?) Webb? Hall? Comeback? Forget it. (these guys are still good athletes)Acosta's 3:58 wouldn't mean a thing (This man will be a strong competitor very soon)is this really the culture you want to perpetuate?Well, I am Mike from North San Diego and I support Josh's comment 100%. The man is correct.

Mike from North San Diego, just leave, dude.
Your behavioral pattern is; complain, complain until you get your way.
Start up your own "perfect" running forum. Best of luck.

Welcome back, man. Don't stay too long. As you seem to know, your brain will rot.
No need to complain if runners behave, right?Even in a chat board. Is conscience wasted here as it is in much of society?Shall I sing the praises of useless beer miles instead?Just saying.-Mike

Absolutely amazing that you can take such comments seriously and be so far up yourself to actually think others also take it just as seriously.
Lighten up pal.

Mike R from North SD you come across as fairly highfalutin and "at a high level" perhaps you could identify yourself and take up the cudgel with the powers that be.

You have some life issues to deal with.
Acceptable behavior is based on your personal opinion.
Wasted thoughts are based on your personal opinion.
Useless beer miles is based on your personal opinion.
Just telling ya, you need to go out an learn to have fun, and not take everything so seriously.
Best wishes as you work to straighten out your life. :-)

haha us LRMBers love it when someone tries to turn a thread in to a lets diss the LRMB
hang on for the ride

All of those threads and posts you mention are in jest and get a good discussion going. It's to get a rise out of other posters. When you hang out with your friends, you do the same things. You need to stop taking things so seriously. People start messing with you when you are wound up like you are. They see it as an opportunity to get a rise out of you.
You are making yourself a troll's dream and your naivety is obvious. No message board or life would be interesting without controversy. If every post on here was serious, every thread would be "this is my weeks training log" and no one would use the site. In real life and on this forum, Controversy can lead to the most entertaining and informative threads.
The threads you were starting a couple of months ago opened you up to trolls. And you were attacking other runners on this forum for being fast. You were a complete hypocrite. Of course they were going to call you slow. You attacked them on their running ability. The very thing you were complaint about been attacked for. In essence, you were no different to them. How can you not see this?

Yes, I did make a typo. My apologies, I hope in time even the Letsrun grammar police will forgive me.

Josh is right about context, however, this thread proves the way that it has been taken is also a valid statement.
Most of the posters here are malignant douchebags, but there was no indication in the interview about what Josh meant by "level." It shouldn't have been his job to clear this up -- that was yours or your editor's (although I doubt you have any editorial oversight there).
Rob Versaw wrote:
I am flattered that the LR community stalks me to know my high schools grades though.
Don't flatter yourself. I (and probably I alone) was curious about your background only in that, based on the quality and tone of the questions, I assumed you were a high-school kid. Googling your name and clicking on the first or second result -- not exactly akin to "stalking" -- brought up your athlete profile page from college. Congrats on getting good enough "high schools grades" to finish first in that particular race.

This is exactly right. In online graduate courses that use messages boards for students to post their personal responses to assignment, and ask the students to engage in discussion with the responses made by other students, controversy is not controlled. It is actually encouraged.
Constructivist learning theories count on controversy, and personal resolution to enhance learning. The teachers are partners in the learning experience rather than controllers. This is one of the new ways of learning, and it is here to stay. People like Mike to to catch up.
This is constructivist now? If it was constructivist learning, I'd welcome it in a heartbeat. Shall we discuss Carol Dweck's "Growth Mindset" approach? If it was truly constructivist, then you would likely eschew all of the base and DEstructivist approaches to name-call, diminish and break down people based on arbitrary (and typically unknown) background. What do we think can be accomplished by taking pot shots at some of our famed and esteemed athletes? This was the spirit of my original rant here about the egos and times. And, it still stands. Who are we? Why don't we construct a good society and just..blend.Thanks,Mike
