I'm not a "fast runner from the past," at least nowhere near Malmo's level, but when Henry Rono ran 13:06 in 1981, I thought maybe, just maybe someone would break 13:00, but 12:37, no. I still think that's the best world record, although El G's mile/1500 records, Komen's 2-mile and 3000 records, and Rudisha's 800 record are all right up there. Bekele ran so much of that 5K alone, and he just kept going and going with apparently no effort at all. Truly amazing.
