He's the US champ at 5000m and he's been perfectly healthy but he didn't feel like matching up with the big boys in the Diamond League.
So he runs 13:06 in a race no one can even see because it doesn't make the livestream. Whoop do doo.
Oh yeah, there's the Continental Cup. Can't wait.
Yes, second half, meaning his second half marathon which he has been training for all summer and will be running this fall. Does it suck to be stupid?

How the heck did Lomong run like 13:06 a few years ago in his first 5k after miscounting the laps and stopping with 400m to go and he basically can't run any faster since then. Was that just the race of his life?
Ridiculous by almost 40 year old Lagat!
I think it was 13:11, but your point is a good one. He looked so easy that day, and ran that despite the stop. I have wondered the same myself. I think the other faster one was an indoor 5000. But a race is a race, and time goes to the wind. Lagat seems to know better how to race. But, as a Lomong fan, I do hope he rises to that potential. Lagat is so smooth, it's hard to imagine he won't break every masters record out there in a year.
You sound unsure of yourself. He is both older than 40 and younger as well?
I love lagat

Did anyone watch the race? How did the last lap play out?? What were the intermediate splits.
What does aufg mean? Were Bumbalough and Bekele DNS or DNF?
aufg. = DNF

This is a new age record, isn´t it?
We all know that the stated ages for guys like this are quite a bit younger than they really are.
So here's my question: do any of you know how old Lagat really is? I suspect this is more impressive than many are thinking as is the de facto (but not the official) master's record. Actually the 'real' master's record may be under 13.
That's the question. How long has this guy been 40. 3 years?[/quote]

Not in the least unsure. Just to be clear, I've edited my post. Please isolate and quote a line where I say he's under 40 if you can find me writing one. What I'm unsure of is exactly how old he is, although I pointed out earlier that I believe he knows. 42 or 43 is giving him the benefit of the doubt but older than that starts to seem unlikely, right?
I will say again that this time is more impressive than those of you who believe the stated ages of Kenyan 'Junior' athletes think it is. Very nice, Kip!

Thanks Captain for again posting my supremely unambiguous question: How old is Bernard Lagat? I'm sort of answering it in some sense already by saying that it certainly isn't his official IAAF age.
The Captain does not know the answwer to this question. Do any of you out there on the MB know? This could be the fastest time ever by a 44 yo!
You asked me to post the lines that made it seem like he was both older and younger than he is.
Lagat is almost 40. I don't think there needs to be speculation in either direction.
He was never a "junior" star.
He'll never beat RUPP!!

Nope. His 12:53AR is already the 35+ record.
But the M40 record is 13:43. Going...going...

That's exactly what I posted: that the stated ages of Kenyan distance runners are quite a bit YOUNGER than they really are. No where do I suggest that Lagat is actually claiming an age that I is OLDER than his real age in an attempt to clean up Master's records. You have not pointed out any quote where I suggest as much.
It seems to me, after you're most recent post that your issue with my posts is not that I claim he is really 33 pretendind to be 39. I do not claim this but in fact claim he is over 40 but am not by how much.
It seems your beef is that you actually believe his stated age. You may be in good company but I remember reading a thread here recently when a guy who had spent time in Kenya actuall explained how this works. Do you not remember this? They go into the passport office and pick a year. The date is usually the day they were in the office. I thought this was common knowlege on LRC and, like I said earlier, a book I liked a lot goes into this as well.
So, you are welcome to claim Kip is 30, 39, or whatever age you believe. You are also welcome to believe Koech's stated official age. You may also believe that every Chinese female gymnast is 14. Feel free, I do not mind . I DO mind if you are saying that I claim Lagat is actually younger than he's letting on. No way I believe this although you are wecome to
Now you are just confused with yourself.

Dude, don't even bother responding to anything written by "Captain Obliviousness." Most of us don't. It will go in one ear, out the other, and down the drain along with your faith in humanity.

That's just because you are learning disabled. Many respond and you are just one of many.
Thank you for your participation.

Hey Corn Star, thanks for setting me straight about the Captain. I'm not a regular here and don't know who is either genuinely confused, trying to provoke a reaction, pissed off at everybody else on here, etc.
This guy actually derailed my question to those on here more 'inside' TandF than I am. I know not to take the bait in the future. This scene pretty killed the thread, although what else could be said anyway?
Damn impressive.
But where has he been all summer?
