2008 is back, baby!
Bekele was testing the water in Paris. In Chicago, he'll floor it.
I'll go with experience and Kipchoge for the win.
I am so stoked for this. Kipchoge will be hungry (for vengeance) and has the experience. I still think KB will win. He almost always does. He looked well-adjusted to marathon during his "solo" 2:05. No reason to believe he can't outgrit Kipchoge, despite inexperience. That signature XC Bekele dominance is about to return.
I personally saw Kipchoge win the Carlsbad 5000 one year. This guy is pure muscle, connective tissue and bone. Bekele, be afraid. Be very afraid. lol!

Two all time greats, competing in the marathon.
I'm looking forward to their race.
Match ups like this almost never happen. Either one will DNF or not start because of an "injury".
I'd give it to Kenenisa Bekele but it'd be close.

I concur with this! If this happens, it will be Bekele bailing out! Kipchoge right now is on fire and is the future of this sport baring injuries. I hope none of them bails out. This would be a preview of 2015 world champions and 2016 Olympic games.
Kenny is way better than kipchoge on the basis that Kenny has more speed and could always just win in the last mile even if he's behind because his pr is 2:05:03 so he can hang in there and even if he's 5 seconds behind because he can't keep up with the way-before-the-finish speed-ups he can always split 4:35 in the last mile (25.2 to 26.2) and clutch it out by 10 seconds.
IF this happens, it will be EPIC.
If it happens more than once, the world record will fall.
If not, it'll still be fun to watch.
BEKELE IS BACK, BABY!!!!

You mean had more speed? The last time they met up on the track, in 2012, over the 3000m (@ Doha), 5000m (@ Paris Saint-Denis) distances, Kipchoge bested Bekele.
I think Bekele is one of the greatest athletes ever, but something tells me Eliud Kipchoge might be up for something special in Chicago. He's run some incredible performances recently and nobody seems to pay attention on him. I wouldn't be surprised if he broke the WR in Chicago.
Bekele has more speed? Questionable. Kipchoge beat Bekele in the 2003 WC 5k.

And how many times has Bekele beaten Kipchoge?

And what happened at the Beijing Olympics 5k? Bekele left the Kenyans in the dust: Eliud Kipchoge and Edwin Soi
What is relevant is recent history; Kipchoge has had Bekele's number for a while now, and Bekele knows it.

Hey, I never said Bekele is a better marathoner than Kipchoge. I just questioned the absolute truth of the contention that Kipchoge has "greater speed" simply based on the 2003 WC upset. That doesn't tell the whole story on the speed end of things (you can find many examples where the two were in the same track race).
