I'm not sure how people can call him an "idiot" for this. Does he give a shit about being the "official" winner? He already knows he won the race. He is bringing to light how power hungry the authority figures in track and field are. USATF has shown how terrible they are these past seasons, Kenya is just ridiculous, and now whoever is in charge of Europeans is getting in on being power hungry. Benabbad has a problem with authority for sure, but almost every athlete in track and field nowadays has darn good reason for it. Athletes are handcuffed by shoe sponsors and now have no control over ridiculous DQ's. Gabe Anderson, Andrew Bumbalough, and now Benabbad. Dq's should be entirely based on affecting the race in a negative way. There also shouldn't be any "fines," these athletes aren't getting paid by teams like the NFL or NBA where they are expected to represent the team in a good manner. The only recourse would be for France to not pick him for events to represent the country if they think his behavior is out of line.
