I say no. Next week I'm visiting a place I moved away from 8 years ago, and I'm already planning how to fit in runs at my old favorite places.

sex, drugs, rock and roll to name a few
I tried that... it's a concrete jungle now.
Almost everything is more fun than visiting my old running routes.
Pizza. Pizza is more fun than your old running routes.... and beer.
Well puntang for one

It's fun if you are faster. had HS loops at home of about 4, 6 and 8 miles on pavement, all in one giant block. After freshman year in college I tore down my previous 8-mile loop record in my first attempt. I was in the 43 minute range while previous best was 49.
I tried to run that same loop last year and had to cut it short. I wasn't much past 3 miles and already at 24 minutes on the watch. I was done.
I will never run that old loop again unless I am ready for it.
Has the definition of "fun" changed? If we're still going with the old definition, then my answer to your question is 'YES'.
malmo,
Do you run at all these days?
Way to ruin my thread guys.
If it is any consolation, the old routes I have in mind are in the Bay Area. I'll be running between redwood trees, through eucalyptus groves, up and down wide dirt trails. One of my runs in the Berkeley hills has a magnificent view of the Bay and San Francisco.
I'm really excited about it. Just as excited as eating burritos, drinking beers, and catching up with old friends. To each their own I guess.
Do you live somewhere terrible now?
Why did you move?

Oops, this was me. Different name.
No, I like where I live now too. I also get excited to visit my favorite running routes from my hometown, and college. I'm surprised more people don't feel this way.
OP, be careful with LRC folks taking you too literally. I know what you're talking about, but I have to admit that you may find some unwanted changes to your routes.
I lived in Chapel Hill, NC in the early nineties and had some fantastic routes that no longer exist. It's not like they just did away with the trails or built a few houses or something... they literally put cities up where a forest used to be. I don't think ANY of my old routes still exist. One of my favorite three-mile dirt loops is now a parking lot for construction equipment. So I ran two miles there from my hotel, thinking it would be a great 7 miler, and when I got there I didn't know what to do. I just ran around campus instead.
I am just impressed that you spelled eucalyptus correctly.
