Are there any good ones out there during december or januray?
Are there any good ones out there during december or januray?
Naples - Fast end of Jan
Mercedes - Birmigham , AL - more challenging with hills and a very well run event Beginning of Feb
Carlsbad Half (San Diego) a tad rolling
Rock N Roll Half (Phoenix) should be very fast
Naples Half (Florida) fast, but can be humid
Tucson Half (Arizona) downhill
3M Half (Austin) very fast, last weekend of January
Vegas Half (Vegas) downhill, then flat, also last weekend of January
Why do no kenyans ever run the Vegas Marathon, has it only been this year that $25,000 has been given to the winner? Or next year I should say, I'm half tempted to come over and do it myself, ha.
Yes, for the first time in a long time, Vegas has some big prize $$$ again, though it will be interesting to see who they get, as the money does drop off fast. TBD.
HOUSTON for sure! Third or fourth largest in country, 2nd biggest prize purse, largest number of spectators - definitely the most organized big race out there. Also the site of the 2005 Mens US Half Marathon Championships!!!
Yes Naples is fast I ran a 1:19 when I competed there some years ago. The Tampa Bay half Marathon held in conjunction with the half is a nice fast one and will get underway the first Sunday in Feb so I highly recommend that one as I had a good experience there this year and plan to head back in 2005. The weather is decent the course very flat with a couple of bridges and there are plenty of people out there to run with. I highly recommend it, plus the post race party afterwards is pretty good fun also. Go for it :o)

There is a good half marathon in freemont Nebraska, first week in december, they run it whichever way wind blows, so times are always fast, usually attracts some college kids loking for marathon qualifiers as most are in shape from xc and its right before xmas break
the seattle half is super competitive. 30 guys under 1:20; it's super sick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sarah, when did you compete in Naples? I have run there several times and had a few top 5 finishes. How did you do?
Hi, well I had to look it up in one of my training logs it was that long ago 1997, and I was using it as prep for the womens National Marathon Championships held on the dreaded Columbia SC course which is a toughie. Anyway, a bunch of Russians ran the year I did and so I was 9th in 1:18 :56.A top 5 finish would be great, I think it would be a super race to do again one day, very fast!

Sarah, will you be running Naples this January? (FYI: I'm a boy)
San Francisco Half Marathon Superbowl Sunday. A very fast course if the weather cooperates.
Hello boy :O) No my plans do not include Naples this year but I do plan to fly to Tampa for the half marathon there held in conjunction with their marathon, its a super course and an excellent event. All the best to you though should you decide to do Naples, one day perhaps I will make it back there. Florida is a great place to compete in the winter :O)

seems odd to me...a 15K and a half the same weekend. the 15K is always a great event, love the different starts for men and women. the marathon has HUGE Master's prize $$$--and they say, there will be drug testing. TBD
Sarah, wher edo you reside? I assume not FL?
Any pictures of you running? ;-)
Yeah the Gasparilla 15km is indeed the day before the half and the marathon! The prize money in the 15km is only to the locals so I am not going to be doing that but I am also not in the market for a marathon so it will be the half as a good tune up to check my winter fitness level and enjoy a week-end in Florida.... Indeed there is a small fortune in the 26.2 miler and the Open purse is alot less so they are really high-lighting the Masters.I applaud the fact that they are drug testing and hope that will deter any potential cheaters. I really liked the half course, a good one for running a very even race! As for Boy, I do not live in FL correct, I am out West, love the 4 seasons and high altitude and low humidity...... Best to all :O)
