I was at that meet. For context Gedyon went to a CC but never finished. He no longer competes.
Are girls allowed to compete at the JO finals?

While this is true, you should probably also mention that he ran 1:52/4:02.02 (fulle mile)/8:50 in HS and scored a scholarship to Oregon before p*ssing it away. Your post didn't really provide context.

That's truly sad. The standards to get into most public colleges are fairly easy. Was Gedyon brought here in his youth and struggled in school?
But anyway, glad to see how much youth running has improved over the past few years. Some might say that these kids are overworked or overtrained as a youth, etc., but I can guarantee track has no monopoly on coaches that over train young athletes. The fact that these kids are in the sport earlier means the odds that someone with great talent meets up with a great coach is higher, which is paying dividends on the world scene for our athletes right now.
Same kid narrowly missed the 1500 record (4:22) this morning but won by 10s in 4:23.
He lowered the 800 record again at AAU nationals. 2:03.09.
Again just missed the 1500 nr running 4:22.84 and winning by 22s.
