3/10 for effort and hooking so many stooges into responding.
You just reached too far with the 16:58. Plus who locks in stone their top 7 for the year based on 1 time trial... in July? Answer: Nobody.

Be happy you are on a team that can be competitive and you are 1st in line if someone in the top 7 goes down with an injury.
If this isn't a troll thread:
You realize that who races in Varsity/JV races isn't cemented by this tryout, right?
You realize that if throughout the season you develop and get faster than any one of the varsity guys, you will race with varsity, right?
You realize that if any one of the varsity guys gets injured, you will race in their place, right?
Yeah I mean it's like come on broseph lighten up. You have literally 4 months to make the top 7 for the state meet. Those kids are probably already burned out anyways...........

Your language doesn't make you look mature, it makes you look pathetic and stupid, because you can't articulate how you feel without resorting to f this f that. What are you, a sophomore, maybe a junior? You've still got time to improve and earn a spot, even in the middle of the season. Of course, if I were your coach I wouldn't give you a spot, now that you've been so immature about coming in eighth. So a soccer player was faster than you, even though he didn't train as hard. Galen Rupp was a damn soccer player, I'm pretty sure his XC team wasn't so excited to get their a**es kicked by this newbie who barely ever ran, but what you do is you Man Up and Work Harder. But that's not your problem. Your problem is your attitude. If you run with that attitude all the time, XC is not the sport for you. It's about self improvement more than it is about being top dog, and there will always be someone faster and stronger to try to run down.
although based on the skinny lil b*tch comment I get the feeling he's one of the Xfit trolls
It is fake. Who says go to the school grounds and run around the school neighborhood?

Last mile splits:
3:28/2:49
Work on your pacing young one. If you had run your own race around 5:30-5:35 per mile you wouldn't be in this position right now.
Are you stupid? You do realize he is running a 5k right? The last "mile" split of 6:17 is really ~5:40-5:45 pace. A slower mile definitely, but not horrible. Your idea of 5:30-5:35 for the whole race would have guaranteed that he fails making varsity.
5:30 pace= 17:05
5:35 pace= 17:20
My bad. I read this when right when I woke up and thought he was running a 3 mile course not a 5k course. But running a 5:15 first mile didn't help his cause either.
For me, very hard training pays dividends months later. It helps some immediately- but does the most in a "delayed" time.
This is only a time trial & it sounds like you need sharpening up- which will come in abundance in the season.
soccer is a fall sport too why would they be at xc, and why are you doing a time trial for varsity this early? 0/10
Is varsity only the top 7 with everyone else JV? Doesn't sound right.

There are about 20 things that don't sound right (what kind of 17 year old refers to himself as a bitter man?)
It's a troll thread, but a good one. The 0/10 are being very unkind. 7/10 based on the number of legitimate responses he's gotten.
You can add how the soccer player took your girlfriend right after the race.
A real man would keep working hard and waiting for a spot to open as one of the others inevitably quits the team.
Why dont you join soccer then maybe it will make you a faster runner
No i am just kidding I feel bad for you just work a little bit ahrder and youve got it trust me it will come and it doesnt need to happen now
Thanks for quitting. I was the guy right behind you. Now I've got first varsity alternate locked up. Also, your now-ex gf just texted me.

Try ultra running on mountains or trails. People who quit competitive running seem to have success there.
Or try this. Wait 20 years, gain 40 lbs, and start running half marathons in 2:10, 5:00 marathons and 2 day ultras. Everyone will love you and think that you are a running god.

most people can't run near 16:58
