So I've gone from mild discomfort (read: pebble feeling) under my 2nd and 3rd metatarsal to very painful, almost impossible to run/walk in the matter of a month.
I first thought it was a little flair up of PF, so I did my usual lacrosse ball foot roll and continued to run through the discomfort pain as it seemed to dissipate as the run continued.
Now that I'm 90% sure that it's Morton's Neuroma, I'm trying to do everything I can to not have to go to the Dr. I currently do all my running in Hoka One One Bondi B's, and read somewhere that too much cushion could make the issue worse.
I have a narrow foot, but need a wide toe box for the MN. Any suggestions??
Thanks
I'll probably give too much detail, but as no one else has posted anything maybe that isn't the worst.
I started training in flats in 2001. In the winter of 2004-2005 I was back from college and running in my hometown and had an awkward step off a 8 inch ledge and felt like I'd broken my foot. Turned out that I just aggravated the Morton's Neuroma I had developed in my new, too-narrow flats (Puma H Streets).
As I was a freshman and not exactly contributor at State U, they tried to "rehab" my injury once I returned. Lots of electro-therapy and trying to cut out pads to alleviate the pain. Also tried to run in wider shoes. This went on for about 4-5 weeks with 0 improvement (couldn't run 30s before stopping from crippling pain) before they finally just gave me a cortisone shot. I went for a 40 minute run 3 days later with no issues.
Really, you ought to get surgery for Morton's neuroma. Cortisone shot was their "cheaper" alternative for me. From the research I'd done, I'm not aware of hardly anyone being able to remedy the situation by changing footwear/orthotics. That being said, I did pitch the H streets and went to a wider flat at that point.
Best of luck, that injury really sucked and I feel your pain.
