I live and run in Arizona, in the Phoenix area and it is god awful hot here in the summer. In fact, the only time it is humainly cool is during the middle of a good downpour. I don't advocate running in severe storms with high wind, hail an tornadoes, unless you are a complete adrenalin junky and like to test fate. But our early morning storms typically are your garden variety gulley washers with lots of cooling rain, little wind, some thunder and lightning. So, if I hear thunder rumbling outside window in the early hours, I enthusiastically grab my running shoes and hit the road. Statistically, you are more likely to get hit by a car than struck by lightning. In fact, I have had more close calls with fate running near traffic than anytime running in stormy weather.
So, anyone else like running in stormy weather? Tell your storm encounter running experience. Are you an adrenalin junky who likes to test themselves against the elements?
