What do you think goes down as the greatest high school track performance of all time in the U.S.?
Certainly Gerry Lindgren against the Russians or Houston McTear tying the world record for 100 yards has to stand out.

did greatest American performance make them hero in country? I think not. Any american who get good today is accused of drugs. This is bad sport.
Take Ah advice and leave sport for good. Go to school and focus on scholars. Scholars bring you the good life. Running brings you nothing but broken dreams and nothing.
I believe you maybe on to something Ah. Where does one go from here Ah? Did you run & have dreams once? Why if I can ask do you come here to tell us this message?
Ah come to help wrote:Running brings you nothing but broken dreams and nothing.
Ah has come to help you. To tell you the truth so you can open your eyes and save yourself from having a life void of the good life. Having a family and to be loved can not be achieved with distance running in America. Look at Marion Jones. She get divorce. She is loser. No children and make bad uneducated decision for training. No one care about her. And distance runner? Who is distance runner of great fame in world? Surely not American runner. Never American runner. Never.
Take Ah advice and get out of sport quickly. Life is much more fun to have money, children, beautiful wife, and love.
Renaldo Nehamiah's high school record
I'll be the first: Michael Carter. 81'.
Although they are taking analogies off the SAT
Geb:Wejo :: Michael Carter:Any other high school shot putter
Ah says how sad it is to have been sucked in the sport when you were a naive and vulnerable child. You must of thought that track was the greatest sport in the world. You must have thought that it was as popular as football and basketball. You must have thought that it was better to be an all-state runner than an average football. Let me tell you, you have been misled completely.
Ah says take this opportunity to understand the truth while you still have a chance to save your self from embarrassment and pity. Quit the sport and become scholars for life.
Hulst winning world jr. cross - animal!
He is win world junior title and where is he today? He is making millions of dollars? I think not. I think if you ask people on american streets who is eric hulst they say not know. American runner win world title and american people know nothing of him.
Take Ah's advice and leave sport behind. Waste of time. Win world title and no one care. No one give money. No good life, just excuses.
Hulst died of an illness but his life was better because of his running.
I think Ah sound like mr. Chest famous hater of runners because one break his neck in H.S. football practice, I once did this in H.S. big running back, me 120 lb weakling grab neck throw to ground, running back plenty angry next play bring many big freinds to run in front of him, mow little me over I no hurt, later they apologize for mowing little guy who runs faster than them. Runner smart lead good life good jobs plenty wemon, money lands houses, all good follow passion forget Ah!!!
is the michael carter that set the ridiculous HS shot put record the same one who played nose tackle for the 49er's? I still have his 88 topps card somewhere.
Ah gives good advice. Many people see the light and leave the darkness behind. Forget about track. It is worthless sport. Gain some weight, get big, and you will find life much much more pleasant in american society.
Didn't Mathias win the OG deca at age 17 (or was it just making team at 17 and the gold later?)? That would do it for me.
YEP, its funny to talk to the old field offials at Golden West, where he set the mark. They talk in hushed tones with a far-off smile barely detectable on there lips...
Sorry,don't start. THEIR lips
Ah you are only partly right if runners forget those life skills on account of running--as Marion has--she probably cannot produce children on account of steroids. But a club runner can network with others and lead the good life such as you say.
I wonder where Bob Mathias is now--anyone know? He is probably dead, I suspect.
Yes, ds-man, mr mathias won Oly gold as a high schooler! It'd be fun to get some of the T & FN crew on here to offer their 2 cents worth. Jim Ryun certainly deserves mention. Gerry Lindgren has been mentioned.
One from my district was when Dion Bently(might still hold the HS Long Jump record) jumped clear over the LJ pit in a meet. Some of his distances were phenomenal.
You gotta give Webb some credit for his mile. Same goes for Jim Ryun back in the day (moreso than Webb).
I agree with Lingren.
What about the record holder for 10k, I don't remember the time, I just remember it's sick.
Kim Gallagher's 2:00 has to be up there too.
