I'm in the midst of a base phase for a fall marathon. I was planning on going 3 weeks up/1 down because it's what i did training for my last marathon, but now i can't find it referenced explicitly, for the base phase, anywhere in Daniels (whom I base most of my training off of). Is this something that top marathon coaches recommend? Do any of you do it? What would Salazar have Mo do?
Or is a better way to optimize recovery just to take the easy/lower mileage day when i feel it is needed, rather than structure every 3rd or 4th week as a "down" week.
note, by down week i mean maybe 10 or 15 miles less than the week before. so 90, 90, 90, 75, 95, 95 95, 80, etc.
