I'm gonna have to do a crap ton of that since I'll be out for a while with an injury while building a base this summer. Thoughts?

Anecdotally, I've heard that some people *have* had hip soreness from pool running, particularly folks who've moved from 10+ hours/week, running on dry land, directly to 10+ hrs/wk running in the pool. It's a simple overuse thing.
Personally, I'd recommend a variety of aerobic activities--if you're well enough to do them--rather than focusing entirely on pool running. Particularly in the first half of the summer, I'd advise mixing in bike, elliptical, rowing, regular swimming, and so on--if available--rather than relying solely on pool running.
For one thing, it takes a little while to develop the skill of pool running to the point where you can get real aerobic development. For another, a mix of activities initially will make you less likely to develop an injury a) during the summer, and b) when you return to running.
yes it can but there is a way around it
