I am currently training for my senior year of highschool without a coach, so I'm interested in some opinions. This summer, I really want to build a mountain on fitness so I can blow my senior year out of the water. I have ~10 weeks of summer training left, then ~10 more weeks till my state meet. How smart would it be to fit in a half marathon training cycle into my remaining 10 weeks of summer, then race a 13.1? Wouldn't training for a longer race qualify as base training for a shorter one? Is 10 weeks enough to do a 5k training cycle? It would seem like the long runs and lengthy tempos would really improve my aerobic capacity, then I would have 10 more weeks to sharpen with 5k stuff. Do I need to be getting 5k specific earlier? How different really is an XC 5k compared to a road half-marathon? Wouldn't the strength and endurance cross over very well?
PS my PRs are 4:22, 9:57, 16:03 and 1:22:45 from last year.
How sound is my plan?
