I'm just hitting a point in the year where for 3 weeks or so the race schedule is VERY busy with races I want to do. That is, there's a 5k or 10k race each Saturday or Sunday, plus another on the Wednesday evening. Now, I know that by doing all of them I'm almost certainly ensuring that I don't get my absolute best time in any of them and I'd be better of targetting a much smaller number of races. Nonetheless, I do plan to run them all!
So, my question is about what other training I should do during this period? Clearly my weekly mileage will be well down, as I'll need to go short and/or easy the day before each race. So theoretically that would suggest my fitness actually declining during the period. But I find it hard to believe this would really happen, given two hard 5k or 10k races each week.
As a little background, I'm a 53 year old runner, typically running 30-40 miles per week with the occasional 50 mile week. I ran my last 5k (a month ago) in 17:30, a time I'm hoping to beat in my next race.
