I wasn’t initially planning on taking a cutback week, but I woke up Tuesday feeling run down and figured now was a good time in this base phase to cut mileage by 20-25% and let my body recover. I also developed a painful callus in the middle segment of the bottom of my left foot, which affected my stride on Wednesday’s run and subsequently caused my left soleus/calf to become tight on Thursday. Found some medicated pads at the local pharmacy to help with the callus and I got in some good lacrosse ball work on my muscles Thursday night, so by Friday I figured I would try to get in some quality.
The weather didn’t want to cooperate, though. 5:00am and dewpoint was already 68, plus it started pouring on me at the end of the workout and during the cooldown. I was pleased with the consistency of my splits, but the oppressive conditions made the effort feel closer to 15k-HMP than MP. Still, I was pleased to come out of the week much better than I started, hopefully now ready to up the volume again for the second half of my base phase.
Hope everyone else had a great week.
