Seems like he is in better shape for a fast 2-mile; I am going to say 4:01. Btw, his recent workout seems odd for what should be sharpening a coule of days before a sub-4 attempt.

First he's going to try to single-handedly win his team a State Title in Track. He (his team) is ranked 2nd in state right now.
1:51.97 for 800m
8:46.80 for 3200m
Supporting numbers look good enough this season. Don't put too much stock in one workout. It was just a workout. This guy is ready and he's the type who rises to meet the challenge.

Hahahaha, Verzbicas was a far superior runner and was 3 tenths under.
Verzbicas = 8:29.46 / 3:59.71
Haney = 8:46 (yes, I know the time is a 3-5 seconds soft because he saved up a lot for his kick) and he'll run 4:02.5, I say.
You know how big of a difference 3:58.4 and 3:59.9 are, or are you just naive?
Lukas V was also a 22 year old high school senior.

And Lukas was a strength guy. He could not run 1:51. Haney is coming at it from more of a speed side, more similar to Alan Webb.
LV also did it in a HS only race. Not Pre. Got to believe the magic of Hayward, the crowd, and having guys to chase would have been good for at least 1-3 seconds.
The challenge is to ensure that those 1-3 seconds aren't made up in the first half mile. If they are, he'll run 4:06.83.

HE WILL NOT BEAT MAKHLOUFI.
When Verzbicas did it, it was in bad weather in HS only competition. His 3:59.71 would be worth 3:56 in ideal weather maybe 3:54-3:55 in a pro field.
Haney isn't in as good shape. The weather here in Oregon has been pretty good lately, so I think the weather won't hurt Blake. And he has the advantage of running in a pro field. He is nowhere near 2011 Verzbicas, but I think he has the right circumstances to run 3:58.mid and become the 3rd fastest HSer in history (behind Webb and Ryun).
you guys are real pieces of work. that was a midseason workout filmed earlier. waaaay too much negative energy here.
4:02.4

I'll go further: video of a highly impressive workout designed to "indicate" sub-4 would make me suspect he's leaving his best efforts in practice. Instead, he's just going about his work and letting the goofy cinematographers do their thing. I have no idea what the rest of his training looks like, but that workmanlike session raises his stock in my view. So I'm guessing 3:59.7

Remember Montoya's highly impressive workout last year on flotrack, all at well under 4:00 pace as compared to Saarel's I impressive workout. Saarel did a 400 800 400 workout and none of it was better than 4:02 pace, and he ended up doing quite well while Montoya faltered. However, I don't think that just a smart workout means he can go sub-4. I think he runs 4:00.5, destroys the state meet, and breaks 4 in the Dream Mile.
This guy is ready and he's the type who rises to meet the challenge.
A challenge like the cross country state meet?
Forget sub-4. The kid is great and I wish him well, but he's only half as great as his inner circle of twitter-tards would claim him to be.
4:04.

It's not that big of a difference. The first time my college roommate broke 4 (this was in 1984), he ran 3:54.
Those Haney boys can run. Don't bet against him.

Also, his form is disappointing. Not fluid at all... reminds me of Bernie Montoya on how choppy and short his stride is, not fluid and flowing like Verzbikas or Ryun or Fernandez.
4:03.20
Incompetent coaching?
344 1500 PR
151 800 PR
846 3200 PR
No way he's running those times on talent and incompetent coaching.
359 . Let's go.
Exactly & a lot of runners over stride. How is the running going Eddy?
where every workout MUST be a ball-bustin' predictor workout with NO MORE than 60s rest for ANY INTERVAL. or else you just aren't trying.

There is a list of American first sub-4's and running sub-3:55 for a debut sub-4 is an extremely rare event.
No American did this until 1992, when Steve Holman ran a sub-4 debut of 3:53.31. And only one more American (Marc Davis) accomplished the feat before 2005.
Since 2005, Lagat, Lomong and Jager have joined the debut sub-3:55 club. That's it.
But I suppose you can tell us your roommate wasn't American . . .
I agree. It's great that he has that level of strength, but that workout has no mile specificity. Does it show that he's great? Sure. Does it show that he's ready for a sub 4? Absolutely not. I'm on his side, I want him to do it, but this is just FloTrack putting up a sensationalist title.
Female coach having affair with male runner. Should I report it?
