are you a cookie cutter coach who puts all track runners on the same training regimen?
my original question, just because you are training for a half marathon or some other event, are you able to SEGREGATE you own training and goals and make them completely separate from the atheletes that you are coaching? do you put your runners first?
the best runners on the team shall run. regaurdless of what grade or color they are.
Don't believe in cookie cutter coaching at all.
Club coach here but I help with schools. For adult athletes it all depends on their goals--90% of the time it's a marathon but I get them to do build-up and training races. I train them about I like to train, but maybe a little less intensity for them because nothing worse than getting someone injured.
Youth athletes, I work with a few year-around, but have to compromise when they are "in season" as the coaches don't like outside influence (even though often they don't know what they are doing). Again, depends on the goal of the athlete. I train with them 20% of the time, usually distance and recovery days. Sometimes tempo runs and such.
