Good for Kara for working her marketability and reaching out for sponsors. At the same time though, I cringe when I see her on a cover. When Desi gets injured, she works hard and we barely hear about her. When Kara gets injured she lets everyone know the sob story and sends out pictures of herself with a "I believe" logo/meme/whatever. She strikes me as incredibly self centered. Did anyone else find it odd that Runners World would have real Boston Marathon victim stories and add the sob story that Kara Goucher put her son in therapy because he saw her upset (in the elite hotel)?
I understand she has to do what she has to do but I respected her more when she wasn't trying to sell herself every second of the day.
Kara is a part of the new generation of mommy runners , its like a coffee chat around the so called stresses of being mothers and running. Daytime talk show material , social media blogging etc. Its appeals to certain certain segment i.e. : Oprah mentality.
As an athlete Kara will never be close to what Meb has done for Skechers. Timing was perfect for Meb with few good races left in him , running on the rise and the well conceived launch of a current competitive athlete and good product. Meb's story is heartwarming. Kara ran some great races and had a baby.
BTW , Desi has the fastest two times by any american woman at Boston in its history.
