What did you do to reduce muscle bulk and how long did it take? Was there a positive outcome from losing the bulk?

I did. I lost about 15lbs of muscle. It took me about 2yrs to reach a stable weight, but this is considering I didn't quit lifting. I simply started doing light weight, high reps. Also, I only lifted 1-2 times a week. A good place to start is to step up mileage, and cut down on lifting and adjust your lifting for lean muscle mass and not bulk.
I got positive results from it. Especially since the distances I race stepped up.
In my mid 30s i had lifted seriously (and was eating 6 times a day) and got up to 218 lbs at 6'. I ran very seldom but did ride stationary bike a few times a week. I had a bit of a gut but was very strong (barbell curls - sets of 8-10 reps at 185 # , reps of 270# on lat pulldown. I grew tired of being so big. Quit lifting and began running seriously. In 6 weeks lost 35 pounds. Was exhilirating.

Did you diet?
I went from 177 (soccer player) to 148 (cross country and track) in about a year.
I just stopped lifting except one day a week (bigger faster stronger distance program), and ran 75-110 miles per week (with 5 days a week being doubles). Didn't really diet.
